The Premier League is about to kick off it’s new season and after the fantastic finish of the last season we are in for a huge treat. Lets have a look at some of the ins and and outs as the teams look to improve their squads.
Arsenal signed Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona for £30 million to bolster their attacking power
Arsenal have made some big changes as they look to improve their team and look to challenge for the title. Their biggest signing so far has seen the introduction of the Chilean and Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez. Sanchez is a strong player and his depth and goal scoring ability will definitely help the Gunners in their challenge for a Premier League title. Having made 88 appearances and scoring 39 goals for the Spanish giants Barcelona and also having one of his best performances for his country at the Word Cup, he will surely be a threat to other teams. Arsenal have also lost Sagna to Manchester City on a free transfer and have now added Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle United to take over the right back spot. Debuchy had a good season with Newcastle even though the team’s performance wasn’t the best, lets hope he can strengthen Arsenal’s defensive line this up coming season.
Luis Suarez on his way from Anfield to Barcelona with a reported £75 million fee
Liverpool have also made the headlines this off season with one of the most talked about players of the modern era, Luis Suarez moving to Barcelona. After he only made two appearances for his country in the world Cup and then once again not being able to control his temper was disciplined for biting another player. Liverpool then decided to accept Barcelona’s offer of £75 million and let the Uruguayan forward go. Though he was Liverpool’s best player last season they knew that with the ban being for four months they would need to sell him and start looking for a replacement. They have already added three Southampton players to their roster bringing in Lambert, Lallana and Lovren too. Can these three “L’s” add to Liverpool, we all know they performed well at Southampton but on many occasions we have seen players from the lower sides struggle when put on the big stage in a big club. The Reds have also added Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen as well as paying £25 million for the Benfica youngster Lazar Markovic. A gamble on the German and Serbian youngsters, but they have both shown potential and could be players Rodgers is looking to for the future rather than having an immediate impact.
Van Gaal is the new face at Manchester United and will be a tough Manager but will also be what United need
Manchester United and Manchester City haven’t made any big name player signings so far. United have though made a major change by replacing Moyes with the Dutch manager Louis Van Gaal. He has been behind big teams already with an impressive resume under his arm, having been at the helm of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and the Netherlands too. So the glitz and glamour of Manchester United won’t fray the Dutchman, but there will be big expectations of him by the fans and the club too as they look to erase a poor last season. So far they have only added Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera but with the transfer window still open there is still time to make another big signing before the window closes. Manchester City have so far brought in Sagna from Arsenal and have also brought in Fernando from Porto and Willy Caballero from Malaga. Both signings will certainly help Pellegrini defend his title but still I can possibly see a big signing yet to come for the Sky Blues.
Diego Costa has signed with Chelsea after having a great season with Atletico Madrid
Chelsea have definitely made some headlines of their own too with the acquisition of Diego Costa and also selling David Luiz to PSG for a reported fee of €50 million. Mourinho has also brought in Filipe Luis to join his Atletico Madrid partner as well as bringing back his old striker Didier Drogba to the roster. He has also managed to sign Cesc Fabregas bringing the Spaniard back to the EPL after leaving Arsenal. The fact that he has also signed for a rival team will be interesting for the midfielder when he plays his old side. Mourinho has also let go a few big names as Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o all leaving the club as well. Interesting to see how these new ex La Liga players will do in the English Premier League.
Anyway readers stay tuned as the season is only weeks away and after last season I can’t wait to see what is in store for us fans.
Ciao for Now
